Buy This Album Mohammad Montashari - Haftsin In Old Tehran
Singing Nourouzi Songs (songs in praise of New Year in the beginning of spring time) was a delightful tradition and traces of it could still be found in folkloric culture. Old Tehran had his own version of traditional songs and old masters of the day namely Esmaeil Mehrtash had the duty to teach this art form to the younger eager generation and to compile and record them. Maestro Mohammad Montasheri, one of those generation and of the most capable and gifted kind, is a genuine narrator of nourouzi songs of Tehran for its new inhabitants. His voice carries us through a sweet journey in times gone by.

Maestro Mohammad Reza Lotfi writes such tributes about maestro Mehdi Kamalian: “Mehdi Kamalian, a knowledgeable musician and a master in making musical instruments, is a familiar name for artists and art lovers. His first teacher was maestro Hossain khan Hangafarin, himself a distinguished student of Mirza Abdullah, who also had knowledge of western music. After Hossain khan’s death his job and life in general have kept him from being taught systematically by other great teachers of his time but he had always kept himself in touch by his continuous connections with great artists such as Saeed Hormozi, Youssef Forotan and Nour ali Borromand. In style he was under the influence of setar playing by Hormozi, a prominent player before him”.

Golha (Flowers) Program has such timeless and eternal quality that to try and achieve the same standard of singing or musical arrangement, with an authenticity and an artistic quality worthy of the old performances, seems a challenging if not downright impossible task; however the main reason for rerecording these classics is -apart from the fact that young musicians will be able to try their hands on old classics and to reinvent them- to record versions with exceptional quality of sound also to listen again to the old classics which in the time being is not permitted to be republished in it’s original version. This album has been complied with all these considerations in mind; hope you will come to like it.

Fakham-oldoleh Radif (conventional classification of melodies) is one of the last remaining musical pieces of national persian heritage. This radif is an outcome emerging from music making of two prominent musicians of radif of the era by the names of Agha Hossain gholi and his brother Mirza Abdullah Farahani. Fakham was the student of Agha Hossain gholi and of a great admirer of this unique artist; he was also very much indebted to Colonel Alinaghi Vaziri but the language and technique of his tar performances are not under the influence of neither of them but is a tribute of a highest regard to maestro Ali Akbar Shahnazi a master whose status as a musician is as high as violinist Yasha Heifetz in 20th century Europe.
